Hulk... Smash!

The superhero movies are finally making it to Japan.

I really enjoyed The Incredible Hulk. It's a chase movie dressed up with pretty good CG monsters duking it out. There's a little hand-waving about science in the wrong hands, but don't worry that's quickly forgotten with and it's back to the action.

Sit back and enjoy munching on that popcorn while Hulk... Smash!

I liked it a lot. They very consciously went for the vibe of the TV series, which I thought was an interesting and very successful choice. Ed Norton was outstanding and eerily Bixbyesque. It's a pity they felt the need to replace the entire Ang Lee cast, though, because Sam Elliott was born to play Thunderbolt Ross, and Liv Tyler, sir, is no Jennifer Connolly.

I was utterly in love with the first 30 minutes - the scenes in the densely packed streets (and that gorgeous opening helicopter shot) were fantastic.

I think it's a good year for superhero movies when something this good lingers in third place(behind Dark Knight and Iron Man). Bring on the Avengers Project, sez I!

Strange choice with the timing of the Marvel movies here is that The Incredible Hulk will have been and gone before Iron Man even arrives later in September. The character of Iron Man or the team of The Avengers is unknown here (frankly, even Spider-Man was before the first movie) so the Tony Stark cameo was a bit out of place. There was an Iron Man preview immediately before The Incredible Hulk but I doubt whether much of the audience gets that the characters are from the same universe, let alone being teammates in The Avengers.

And a hint to 'Thunderbolt' Ross - if you want to catch Bruce Banner then one sniper with a tranquilizer dart will probably have more success than a platoon of gung-hoes with all manner of techno-weapons.

Probably won't make for as action-packed a movie though.
