Paranoid DVDroid

Was just at my locker getting out some stuff when a weird feeling came over me. What if this wasn't my locker? What if the person next to me has exactly the same stuff in their locker as I have in mine?

Then I paniced and thought, "What if they come back, and see me looking in their locker?"

The feeling seemed so real.

Maybe I should have checked the USE BY date on the juice I drank this morning.

Had a long weekend last weekend, and am going into another one this weekend.

I'd had a hankering to watch The Untouchables and The Rock again. Surprisingly Mari really liked The Rock, and said, "I want to watch another action movie just like that." Well what could I do but go out and rent Con Air.

But I was a little disappointed by the extras on the DVDs. Not a commentary track in hearing, which is unforgivable for these action classics. For The Untouchables there was only the original preview, and for The Rock and Con Air there was basically nothing. I say "basically" because they did include a gallary of posters of recommended movies. Their choices of recommendations compared to the DVDs they were on was a little hard to fathom.

Con Air (action) had The Rock (action), Ransom (drama), The Hunt for Red October (action), Metro (action) and... Pretty Woman (RomCom).

The Rock's recommendations were even weirder. Two children's flicks - Homeward Bound and something else of its ilk I can't recall. I can't really see fans of The Rock dipping into these selections.

Yet maybe I'm wrong. I guess if you're an action fan then you've already seen all the recommended action movies, so what you're looking for is some help to think outside the tube. Maybe Homeward Bound is the answer.

Congratulations Sumie & Ted

Yesterday saw the wedding of Sumie and Ted. Unfortunately due to work commitments I wasn't able to attend the ceremony, but I was able to catch up with some of the guests afterwards to enjoy a drink. I saw the photos and they looked great. Who would have thought Ted would scrub up so dandy?

Many happy years to you both.

Hot days ahoy, still

Summer holidays are finished, and all the women's magazines and billboards show long skirts and boots. So summer's over right?

Except nobody's told Mother Nature and so according to the weather report we're going to get a 34 degree day. Glad I'm hiding inside all day.

War of the Worlds is most tripod-riffic. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is most weird. Johhny Depp plays an extremely nasty Michael Jackson. Tee Hee.

BTW I love my clip drive. It was so cheap (like about 8 starbucks' lattes), has so much storage and is super portable. I know everyone else in the 1st world has been so au fait with them that they've been using them as keyrings for years, but it's new for me.

A novel way to pass the time

Ugghh, what a terrible pun.

Nothing of interest to report, but Mari demanded a blog update, so I've grasped for these.

Continuing with my trend of reading Crichton clones I spent the weekend with Dan Brown's Angels & Demons. A most unlikely turn of events surrounds the Vatican during the Conclave. The amusement factor alone kept me reading to the end. Now I've just got to get through The Da Vinci Code.

This pair of airport novels came into my possession after Mari said that she wanted to read The Da Vinci Code. Foolishly acting on this I went out and bought her it and Angels & Demons. She read the first page of Angels and Demons, realized that this was not a light and fluffy romance, and gave up on them both. Thus they passed back into my hands.

Coincidently I was watching a new Japanese TV drama the other day. The main female character was also reading Angels & Demons, in the English version. It was funny to watch, as the scene was the first meeting between her and the male protagonist. She is meant to be like a picture of feminine beauty to him, as just like a picture she wasn't moving her eyes across the page as she was "reading". It's the way with Japanese TV dramas that the actors are often models or even magazine idols, and have little talent besides the ability to smile sweetly. The shows also often want to have some 'international flavour' to them, and so Enlgish appears in a slightly forced context. I wouldn't be surprised if she never utters any English during the entire series. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not watching to find out.

In other novel news, while looking for Potter info to interest my student's with for next semester I came across the Tenacious Murry D. Enjoy his wit.

Newbie Blogger

antichris is the evil opposite of Chris, and as such has no Elvis in him.

Watched an ant drag half a cockroach back home for dinner. The half a cockroach was big and heavy, but the ant never gave up. I wish I was as motivated as an ant.

How fat are ya?

So I get to school today, and its open. Good start.

I walk up to the first teacher I see and say, "Hi."

I'm answered with, "I didn't expect to see you. Are you fatter? I think you put on weight."

Lucky I've got broad (porky) shoulders.
